What is BioIntensity?
Selected biological signals, translated into visual intensity.
BioIntensity is Reality Modulation's term for a defined, normalized level derived from one or more selected biological signal features and used to control the intensity of a visual experience.
A supported sensor would measure a biological signal. A specified processing method would turn selected features of that signal into a bounded control value. That value could influence color, light, and other visual effects. In our interactive previews, the input is simulated so you can explore the concept without a sensor.
The word is ours. BioIntensity is a working term inside the Reality Modulation ecosystem. It is not an established scientific measure, not a standard anyone else uses, and not a registered or cleared trademark. We are describing an idea we are building toward, and naming it so we can talk about it precisely.
Four different things
Most confusion about this idea comes from collapsing these into one. They are distinct, and only the last two exist in what we have built.

Actual measurement
A sensor reading a real physiological quantity, with stated units, sampling rate and error characteristics. Not implemented. Nothing in these previews measures anyone.
Artistic mapping
A deliberate creative decision about how a number becomes colour and light. Ours is real and running: subtle natural tones low, richer cyan and violet through the middle, a stronger but still readable transformation high.
Simulated example
A value produced with no sensor involved, so the mapping can be explored and explained. Everything you can interact with here is this.
What it is
- A bounded 0–1 control value that drives a real colour-transformation pipeline.
- Two simulated sources of that value: a manual slider and a synthetic Auto signal generated on the device.
- A separate, user-chosen maximum effect strength that caps how far the transform can go.
What it does not claim
- BioIntensity is not an established scientific measure and not a registered or cleared trademark.
- The 0–100 display is a normalized design scale. It is not a percentage of brain activity, intelligence, stress, focus, relaxation or health.
- Greater intensity is not inherently better.
- Nothing here diagnoses, treats or measures a mental state, and no research validates an implementation that does not yet exist.
- Any physiological sensor. Nothing in these previews measures a biological signal.
- A validated multi-signal mapping. No feature definitions, weights or normalization have been fixed.
- Any hardware BioSight connection, streaming or session management.
On combining several signals
We have not defined a multi-signal BioIntensity, and we are not going to imply one exists. Combining unrelated physiological signals into a single number is only meaningful if the feature definitions, units, normalization, weights, missing-data rules, configuration and algorithm version are all written down and the result is validated. Until that work is done and checked, any “overall” score across unrelated signals would be arbitrary.
Glossary
- Biological signal
- A physiological quantity a sensor can measure over time — for example an electrical potential at the scalp, or the interval between heartbeats. A signal is raw; it is not yet a number you can act on.
- Selected feature
- A specific, defined quantity computed from a signal — a band power over a stated frequency range, a variability statistic over a stated window. Which features are selected, and how they are computed, is a design decision that has to be written down.
- Normalization
- Turning a feature, which has its own units and range, into a bounded value on a common scale. Normalization needs a stated reference — what counts as low, what counts as high, and over what period.
- BioIntensity
- The single bounded control value that results. In this implementation it runs from 0 to 1 internally and is displayed as 0–100.
- Effect strength
- A separate ceiling the user chooses, capping how strongly the mapped value is allowed to transform the image. It is independent of BioIntensity.
- Signal quality
- Whether a measurement is usable at all — separate from how large it is. A lost or noisy signal means the value is unavailable. Unavailable is not zero.
- Simulated input
- A value produced without any sensor: a slider position, or a synthetic signal generated on the device. Everything on this site and in the current apps is simulated input.
The concept
A supported sensor measures a biological signal. Selected features of that signal become one bounded, normalized control value. That value drives how strongly a scene is transformed.
What is built today
The colour pipeline is real and running. The input is not: every value here is either a slider you move or a synthetic signal generated on your device. No sensor is connected and nothing measures you.
